The Unending Night
The Blackwoods lie directly to the south of Freetown. These woods are known as the bastion of some of the remaining orc tribes scattered by the elvish migration onto the central continent. While many of the more warlike tribes retreated into the Secura Mountains after a series of losses, these less organized tribes that are now called “forest orcs” fled soon after the first losses of their people. They sought in the forests the sort of natural refuge that the more open plains of the central continent could not provide, and though Fife did eventually extend to the borders of the Blackwoods, that natural protection may have been vital in securing a peace between the two races. The people of Freetown and the orcs (and other, wilder denizens) of the Blackwoods have established a stable enough trade alliance to quell the tensions currently brewing to the north. The forest orcs, unlike their mountain brethren, are weakened by disunion and disparate clan alliances, and while various, short lived raiding parties still attempt to plunder Freetown or reclaim their land, enough tribes have been wooed by the stability of trading ties or have been employed directly as mercenaries so that there is little threat (or hope) of an orcish resurgence beyond of the Blackwoods.
